Algerian and Egyptian Foreign Ministers Discuss Libyan Political Situation

New york: Algerian and Egyptian foreign ministers convened to discuss the political situation in Libya, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation to support stability and unity. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly session.

According to Libyan News Agency, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati underscored the significance of the Tripartite Mechanism for Libya's Neighboring Countries, which involves Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. This mechanism is vital for achieving stability and maintaining Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

During the discussions with Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf, Minister Abdel Aati highlighted the necessity of facilitating a Libyan-Libyan solution. This approach aims to organize simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections promptly and ensure the withdrawal of foreign forces, mercenaries, and fighters from Libya. These steps are crucial to realizing the aspirations of the Libyan people.
