Al-Nuwairi Denounces Foreign Interference in Libyan Sovereignty

Tripoli: The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Taher Al-Nuwairi, has voiced strong opposition to any foreign interference that compromises the sovereignty of Libya. He emphasized that decisions regarding financial and monetary arrangements are strictly national matters and should remain free from external influence.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Nuwairi, in an official statement issued today, highlighted previous warnings from the House of Representatives about the risks of undermining national sovereignty and the independence of Libyan decision-making. He stated that unregulated interactions between foreign entities and officials of Libyan sovereign institutions, if conducted outside of established diplomatic protocols, are unacceptable and questionable in terms of their motives and consequences.

The statement underscored that interference by foreign missions or embassies in Libyan internal matters, or attempts to impose foreign visions or arrangements outside the national legal framework, violate the principle of non-interference and threaten the foundations of governance, potentially leading to economic and political instability.

Al-Nuwairi further pointed out that dependence on external solutions, including those led by the United Nations, has historically prolonged the crisis. He stressed that the resolution must be inherently Libyan, derived from the free national will through clear constitutional and electoral procedures.

He also clarified that the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is merely technical and supportive, lacking any executive or sovereign power. He cautioned that any actions exceeding this supportive role would be a direct infringement on Libya’s sovereignty.

Al-Nuwairi urged state institutions and officials to uphold their national duties, protect sovereignty, maintain independent decision-making, and reject any actions that could legitimize foreign interference or weaken the independence of institutions.

The statement concluded by reaffirming Libya’s status as a fully sovereign nation, with national decisions made exclusively by its people, and called for continued national unity and adherence to national principles.
