Al-Juwaifi Engages with Municipal Mayors to Address Challenges in Local Governance

Tripoli: The Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity, Abdul Shafi’ Al-Juwaifi, convened with around 50 municipal mayors from various regions to discuss the challenges confronting municipal operations. The meeting aimed to gain insights into the municipalities and address the issues and difficulties they face, highlighting their vital role as the closest authorities to citizens, understanding their needs and priorities.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Juwaifi announced plans for a more comprehensive meeting with the mayors following Eid al-Adha to delve deeper into matters concerning municipal work and other pertinent issues. During the meeting, the mayors raised several concerns related to municipal operations, including administrative and financial procedures, development projects, and the challenges impacting their functions.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the mayors collectively rejected the notion of parallel and ill-considered budgets. They stressed that the budgets allocated to the so-called reconstruction fund would impose substantial financial burdens on the state, ultimately affecting citizens, who would bear the brunt of these decisions, as reported by the ministry’s media office.
