Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has unveiled a comprehensive political roadmap aimed at concluding the country’s transitional phases with national elections and acceptance of their outcomes. This single-package approach does not specify a timetable for individual components, emphasizing a phased sequence that leads to elections.
According to Libyan News Agency, UNSMIL stated on its X platform account that the proposed roadmap requires a period of 12 to 18 months for implementation, dependent on the political will of all Libyan parties and extensive popular support to ensure the plan’s success. The mission highlighted that each phase is crucial and interconnected, with the success of initial phases paving the way for subsequent ones, ultimately leading to national elections.
UNSMIL urged all Libyan parties to respond positively to the plan and prioritize national interest to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable political solution. The mission stressed the importance of this plan in ending the current state of division and establishing lasting stability in Libya.
