Tripoli: The United Nations in Libya expressed its appreciation to the Libyan News Agency for hosting a media roundtable on Thursday focused on the 2024 UN Annual Results Report. The event highlighted the UN's development and humanitarian efforts in Libya, illustrating the organization's commitment to providing tangible support to communities beyond political involvement.
According to Libyan News Agency, the United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) emphasized that the roundtable offered a valuable platform for direct dialogue between the UN team and local media. The discussion aimed to shed light on the UN's diverse roles in Libya, including the provision of support to local communities. The event was graced by the presence of Ines Choma, Deputy Special Representative, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator, along with representatives from various UN agencies including UNICEF Libya, IOM Libya, UNDP Libya, and UN Women Libya.
The roundtable facilitated an exchange where journalists raised pressing questions regarding the current challenges and development slowdowns in Libya. Participants underscored the necessity for quality and sustainable support for local authorities and stressed the importance of improving interaction and communication with local media. Ines Choma extended gratitude to the journalists and media professionals for their interest in the UN's work in Libya and their role in broadening the reach of these efforts. He also thanked the Libyan News Agency and its head, Abdul Basit Abu Dayya, for their support in hosting the event and helping to communicate the UN's narrative, including the presentation of the 2024 Results Report.
