UN Official Highlights Strain on Libyan Infrastructure Due to Sudanese Refugee Influx


Ajdabiya: The UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Aeneas Chuma, has acknowledged the challenges facing Libyan cities, particularly Ajdabiya, in hosting Sudanese refugees. As the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator, Chuma expressed appreciation for the efforts of Libyan communities and authorities in accommodating the refugees.

According to Libyan News Agency, during his visit to Ajdabiya, Chuma reviewed humanitarian services supported by the UN. He noted the strain on health, education, and water infrastructure due to the continued influx of Sudanese refugees. Chuma emphasized the need for increased international support to help alleviate the burden on local communities.

Chuma also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among Libyan authorities, international NGOs, and the UN. He stressed that systematic data sharing and timely coordination are crucial in enhancing the effectiveness of delivering limited resources to both Sudanese re
fugees and Libyan host communities. Furthermore, Chuma reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting and strengthening inclusive service delivery throughout Libya.
