Ankara: Turkey has asserted that the memorandum of understanding signed with Libya in 2019 concerning the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean aligns entirely with international law. The agreement underscores Turkey's commitment to safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests, ensuring that they are not compromised.
According to Libyan News Agency, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson –nc Ki§li addressed the results of the EU leaders' summit held on June 26, 2025. Ki§li highlighted that the outcomes reveal ongoing attempts by Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration to push their extensive demands onto the European Union, claims that purportedly contravene international law and justice principles.
Ki§li criticized the European Union's statements on the matter, labeling them as biased and politically driven. He emphasized that the delimitation of maritime borders is a complex issue with legal and technical aspects, and the EU's stance does not contribute to regional peace and stability.
The statement called on the European Union to encourage its members to respect international law instead of supporting claims deemed legally unfounded. Turkey reiterated its intention to continue robustly defending its rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean, strictly adhering to international law.
