Tetteh and Khoury Discuss Challenges Faced by Libyan Organizations for People with Disabilities


Tripoli: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hanna Tetteh, and her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, held a meeting with representatives from Libyan organizations for persons with disabilities. The meeting focused on discussing the challenges faced by these organizations, their priorities, and their perspectives on political participation, particularly in relation to the structured dialogue facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).



According to Libyan News Agency, participants in the meeting expressed concerns regarding the shortcomings in the effective implementation of their rights as outlined by international treaties. These concerns relate to both public and private aspects of life in Libya.



The representatives advocated for meaningful representation in national processes, governmental, and elected bodies, such as Parliament and municipal councils. They highlighted the need for particular attention to be given to women and youth with disabilities.



During the discussions, Special Representative Hanna Tetteh underscored the importance of including persons with disabilities in all aspects of national life, including the structured dialogue process.
