Speaker of Parliament Reaffirms Support for Judiciary in Meeting with Judicial Heads


Qubba: The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, met with the heads of judicial bodies from the Courts of Appeal to emphasize the legislative authority’s unwavering commitment to supporting the independence of the judiciary. The meeting underscored efforts to develop legal legislation aimed at expediting justice and addressing the legal and administrative challenges faced by members of this crucial sector.



According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting, held in Saleh’s office in Qubba, was part of the ongoing efforts by the House leadership to maintain open communication with the judiciary and enhance institutional cooperation. The goal is to solidify the foundations of justice and uphold the rule of law. During the discussions, the Speaker was briefed on the current conditions and challenges confronting the judicial bodies, including resource constraints and administrative and legal obstacles affecting the judicial institution’s performance.



Blihaq, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, noted that Speaker Aguila Saleh reiterated the judiciary’s vital role in safeguarding rights and freedoms. Saleh assured the judicial heads that the House of Representatives remains dedicated to supporting the judiciary’s independence, allowing it to carry out its duties without external interference or pressure. Furthermore, Blihaq conveyed that the heads of the judicial bodies dismissed the Constitutional Chamber’s recent ruling as null and void, citing its issuance by a dissolved chamber, as per a Constitutional Court decision, and labeling it politically motivated with no legal foundation.



The judicial leaders also expressed their unwavering support for the Supreme Judicial Council and affirmed their backing of the House of Representatives as the elected legislative entity. They highlighted the challenges faced by the Supreme Judicial Council, including a severe siege and arbitrary actions that threaten the judiciary’s existence and integrity.
