Tripoli: The scientific conference on transitional justice, titled "A Human Rights-Based Approach to Achieving Transitional Justice," commenced at the Libyan Academy for Graduate Studies in Tripoli. The event saw the participation of Abdullah Al-Lafi, a member of the Presidential Council, alongside academics, researchers, and experts from Libya and other countries, as well as representatives from regional and international organizations.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Lafi, in his opening remarks, stressed that justice is founded on rights rather than force, and reconciliation is achieved through recognition and fairness, not coercion. He highlighted the national reconciliation project as a key strategic initiative aimed at restoring trust, unifying voices, and building a state based on justice and citizenship.

Al-Lafi outlined the progress of this initiative, starting with the strategic vision for national reconciliation launched in 2022, followed by a preparatory forum in January 2023 that facilitated dialogue among Libyans on their own soil. He noted the creation of the Libyan Peace Institute, which serves as a scientific and advisory body to ensure the continuity of the transitional justice process.

The Vice President acknowledged the significant role of the Libyan Academy in hosting the conference and the support received from the United Nations, the African Union, the League of Arab States, and allied countries in the reconciliation efforts. He affirmed Libya's commitment to advancing its comprehensive peacebuilding process and strengthening the rule of law.
