Tripoli: The Attorney General’s Office confirmed early Wednesday morning that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has died from gunshot wounds. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to Libyan News Agency, investigators are following the orders of the Public Prosecutor to gather information regarding the incident. This includes visiting the scene, conducting examinations, seizing evidence, appointing experts, and interviewing witnesses and others who might provide insight into the matter under preliminary investigation.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a team of forensic doctors and experts in various fields, including weapons, fingerprinting, and toxicology, conducted an on-site investigation. They examined the body of the deceased, confirming that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi had been fatally shot.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that the investigation is now concentrating on evidence collection and verification. They are working to identify the
suspects involved in the crime and to complete the necessary procedures to initiate public prosecution against them.
