Palestinian Embassy in Libya Condemns Israeli Attack on Sumood Flotilla

Tripoli: The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Libya has condemned the Israeli occupation's attack on the "Sumood Flotilla," particularly targeting the ship "Omar Al-Mukhtar." The embassy has called for urgent international intervention to ensure the safety of the participants, including Libyan activists. The embassy urged action against the occupation's repeated assaults on peaceful humanitarian efforts and its continued violation of international law.

According to Libyan News Agency, the embassy's statement highlighted that the aggression is a clear breach of international law and norms, including the Convention on the Law of the Sea. The attack was described as a direct assault on the civilians participating in the flotilla, which included more than 470 people from various countries, among them Libyan nationals committed to breaking the blockade on the Gaza Strip and delivering humanitarian aid to those affected by policies of starvation and genocide.

The embassy asserted that the Sumood Flotilla, including the Libyan vessel "Omar Al-Mukhtar," is a peaceful civilian initiative entitled to free passage in international and Palestinian waters, as per international law and resolutions. It emphasized that Israel, whose occupation has been deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice, lacks legal authority over these waters.

The Embassy of the State of Palestine expressed appreciation for the Libyan participants' involvement in the Sumood Flotilla, viewing their efforts as a continuation of Libya's historical support for the Palestinian cause and the defense of Palestinian rights.
