Ministry of Labor Holds Meeting to Discuss Expatriate Workers’ Regulations

Tripoli: An expanded meeting at the Ministry of Labor was held today to discuss mechanisms regulating the entry and employment of expatriate workers in the country. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation in the Government of National Unity, Ali Al-Abed Al-Rida, and included the Head of the Passports, Foreigners' Affairs and Nationality Authority, Major General Youssef Murad.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing developments in the "Wafed" digital platform and the mechanisms for regulating expatriate workers' entry and employment. This initiative aims to control the labor market and enhance efficiency and transparency in procedures related to granting work permits.

Al-Abed highlighted the necessity of adopting health certificates for expatriate workers as a preventive measure to safeguard public health from infectious diseases. He stressed that this is a priority issue linked to society's health and food security.

The Minister also stressed the importance of completing the electronic link between the "Wafed" platform and the Passports and Nationality Authority system. This integration, facilitated by joint working teams, is a step toward issuing electronic work cards to workers once they obtain an official work permit.

The meeting saw participation from representatives of the Passports Department and various technical departments within the Ministry, including Employment, Inspection and Occupational Safety, Workers' Housing, and Municipal Labor Office Follow-up. Also present were the Head of the "Wafed" Digital Platform Department, the Director General of the Human Resources Development Fund, and several technical advisors overseeing the digital platform's development and operation.
