Libyan Parliamentary Delegation Participates in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul


Istanbul: The Libyan Parliamentary Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, led by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, joined by MPs Sultana Al-Mismari, Rabia Abu Ras, and Fatima Al-Suwai’i, attended the 152nd Assembly and the 217th session of the Governing Council in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Assembly’s agenda included electing its president for the current session, considering requests to add an emergency item to the agenda, and discussing accountability regarding the implementation of Union resolutions. The discussions also covered the role of parliaments in addressing protectionist policies, reducing tariffs, and tackling corporate tax evasion.

The sessions further reviewed reports from the Standing Committees, approving items related to the Committee on International Peace and Security and the Committee on Sustainable Development. During the Governing Council’s proceedings, the minutes from the previous session were adopted, the C
ouncil’s activities were reviewed, the Executive Committee’s report was discussed, and the strategy for the Inter-Parliamentary Union for the period 2027-2031 was adopted.

The program for upcoming international parliamentary meetings was approved, including a review of the activities of the Standing Committees and subsidiary bodies, and reports on the Union’s specialized meetings were received. The session concluded with a vote on the emergency item, in which the Libyan parliamentary delegation participated.
