Libyan and Russian Officials Discuss Enhancing Infrastructure and Maritime Cooperation


St. petersburg: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transportation for Maritime Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Wissam Al-Idrisi, met with the Russian Deputy Minister of Transportation and the Mayor of St. Petersburg to discuss ways to enhance cooperation with Russia in the fields of infrastructure and maritime transport. This meeting occurred during the International Transport and Logistics Forum held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from April 1 to 3.



According to Libyan News Agency, the meetings focused on developing bilateral cooperation, including the transfer and localization of Russian technology, the exchange of expertise, and mechanisms for utilizing modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to advance transportation methods and facilitate the movement of people and goods.



During the discussions, Al-Idrisi reiterated Libya’s commitment to international treaties and agreements, emphasizing the country’s adherence to legal and ethical frameworks to ensure the protection of facilities, assets, and individuals domestically and internationally.



The Russian Deputy Minister of Transport expressed appreciation for the cooperative spirit demonstrated by the Libyan Ministry of Transport. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the partnership between both nations and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in training, infrastructure development, and the integration of smart systems in the transport sector.



The Ministry of Transportation emphasized that participating in the forum, a global platform for transport ministries and decision-makers worldwide, aligns with its efforts to bolster Libya’s presence in international forums and establish strategic partnerships that support the development of the transport sector and sustainable development.
