Libya Leads 119th Session of Arab Economic Unity Council in Cairo


Cairo: Libya chaired the 119th Ministerial Session of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, held at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo. This significant session was presided over by Engineer Essam Al-Aoul, representing the Ministry of Economy and Trade of the Government of National Unity. The gathering included ministers and representatives from member states.



According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Aoul stressed the necessity of strengthening joint Arab economic efforts through innovative mechanisms designed to address past challenges faced by the Council. He proposed the creation of specialized committees tasked with overseeing the implementation of projects and decisions to achieve the Council’s development objectives.



Secretary-General Mohammadi Al-Ni underscored the historical significance of this session, pointing out its continuation of over six decades of collaborative Arab economic initiatives since the inception of the Economic Unity Agreement. He emphasized the requirement for member states to extend political and financial support to the Council, ensuring its role in fostering Arab economic integration and executing relevant resolutions and agreements. Al-Ni also commended the League of Arab States for its crucial involvement in these efforts.



The session concluded with the adoption of recommendations from preparatory committees and a review of the implementation of prior Council resolutions. These actions aim to bolster economic integration among member states and support the advancement of comprehensive Arab economic development.
