Vienna: Libya and Nigeria are in discussions to enhance cooperation on gas projects and the development of export pipelines to the European market. The Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity, Khalifa Abdul-Sadig, engaged in talks with Heineken Lukpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources of Nigeria, to explore these opportunities.
According to Libyan News Agency, the discussions took place during the Ninth Global Symposium of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held in Vienna. The meeting focused on the potential for bilateral cooperation in gas projects and the strategic role that both Libya and Nigeria could play in bolstering global energy security. This cooperation is seen as beneficial not only for the two nations but also for the surrounding region.
The dialogue also covered the advancement of the gas pipeline project linking Libya and Nigeria, with an emphasis on exporting gas to the European market. Plans were made for a high-level delegation from the Nigerian Ministry of Petroleum to visit Libya in the near future to assess the progress of this significant initiative.
The meeting included participation from key officials on both sides. From Libya, the Director of the Technical Information Department, the Libyan Governor to OPEC, and the Director of the Ministry’s International Cooperation Office were present. On the Nigerian side, the Executive Secretary of the PTDF and the Technical Advisor to the Minister for Exploration and Production at the Nigerian Ministry of Petroleum attended the discussions.
