Suluq: Jamila Salem Rahil Al-Lawati was sworn in as mayor of Suluq on Sunday evening, becoming the second woman to hold the position of mayor in Libya.According to Libyan News Agency, the election and swearing-in ceremony took place at the Ministry of Local Government headquarters of the House of Representatives-appointed government. The event was attended by Minister of Local Government Sami Al-Dhawi and the ministry's undersecretary, following the completion of all necessary legal procedures.With her election, Jamila Salem Rahil joins Al-Zaira Al-Fitouri Al-Maqtouf, who was elected mayor of Zaltan in 2024. This development reflects the growing participation of women in local leadership positions in Libya.The Ministry of Local Government of the House of Representatives-appointed government stated that this measure is part of efforts to consolidate the principles of local governance. It aims to ensure the stability of municipal operations, contributing to the improvement of services provided to citizens and addressing their needs.
