Tripoli: Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, has issued a warning against any actions or rhetoric that might lead to escalation or the onset of new conflicts in the region. Tetteh emphasized the crucial role of the International Follow-Up Committee (IFC) as a platform that unites key regional and international parties invested in Libya’s future.
According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh’s remarks came during a meeting with Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity. Accompanied by the German Ambassador to Libya and Deputy for Political Affairs Stephanie Khoury, Tetteh briefed Dabaiba on the outcomes of the recent IFC meeting in Berlin. The meeting reiterated the global community’s dedication to a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process, facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
Tetteh underscored the necessity for the IFC’s regular meetings to yield practical and executable results. She called for the reacti
vation of working groups across various tracks. The discussions also touched upon recent developments in Libya and the importance of maintaining the delicate stability required to foster the political process. Tetteh acknowledged the efforts of the Attorney General and lauded the recent release of several individuals who had been detained arbitrarily.
Furthermore, Tetteh highlighted the significance of steering clear of any actions or language that might trigger escalation or new conflicts, especially in densely populated areas. She commended the effective work of de-escalation committees and the existing security and military arrangements.
