European Union Urges Immediate De-Escalation in Libya

Tripoli: The European Union has made an urgent appeal to all parties in Libya to de-escalate tensions, resolve disputes peacefully, and adhere to the ceasefire and security arrangements previously agreed upon. This comes amidst concerns over increased military activity in and around Tripoli.

According to Libyan News Agency, the European Union Delegation to Libya, along with the diplomatic missions of EU Member States in Libya, expressed support for a statement by the UN mission. The statement, published on the mission’s Facebook page, emphasizes the need for Libyan parties to focus on de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution.

The joint statement stresses the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, aligning with international law. It also highlights the mission’s commitment to holding accountable those who threaten peace, civilian safety, national institutions, or the political process’s integrity.

The European Union reiterated its readiness to assist in efforts to reduce tensions and urged all parties to engage in constructive dialogue, with backing from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
