Egyptian and Italian Officials Discuss Comprehensive Solutions to Libyan Crisis


Cairo: Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Bassel Salah engaged in discussions with Maurizio Gratani, Director of Middle East Affairs at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on developments in Libya and strategies to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable resolution to the Libyan crisis.



According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting, held in Cairo, concentrated on advancing the political process under United Nations guidance. The aim is to establish a Libyan-led resolution that facilitates the prompt organization of presidential and parliamentary elections, while ensuring the preservation of Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and the integrity of its national institutions.



The consultations highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination among regional and international actors to unify positions supporting stability in Libya and addressing the challenges the crisis poses to the region. Both parties expressed their opposition to any external interference that could escalate the conflict or disrupt the settlement process.



Moreover, they underscored the necessity for the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libya in line with UN resolutions. The discussions also included the need to collaborate with neighboring countries to demarcate maritime borders transparently and equitably, in accordance with international law.
