Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus Pledge Support for Libyan Unity and Eastern Mediterranean Security

Cairo: Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus have reached an agreement to bolster Libyan unity and enhance security throughout the Eastern Mediterranean region. The three nations committed to ongoing consultations and coordination on mutual interests, aiming to serve their collective interests and reinforce stability in the area. They highlighted the need for aligned positions on regional developments, with a particular focus on the situation in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, this decision emerged from a meeting in Cairo, where Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met with Greek and Cypriot counterparts, Giorgos Gerapetritis and Konstantinos Koumbos, respectively. This meeting took place under the umbrella of the trilateral cooperation mechanism among the three countries.

The ministers engaged in discussions on regional and international issues of shared concern, including the state of affairs in Libya, as well as in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia. They underscored the necessity of preserving the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of these nations and expressed support for endeavors aimed at achieving regional stability and security.

In this regard, the ministers stressed the significance of enhancing coordination and joint efforts to confront present challenges. This, they believe, will contribute to supporting stability in Libya, ensuring the security of the Red Sea, and strengthening security and stability at both regional and international levels.
