East Tripoli Prosecution Detains Two in Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Case


Tripoli: The East Tripoli Primary Prosecution has detained two individuals accused of being part of a criminal gang involved in drug smuggling across the Libyan-Tunisian border.



According to Libyan News Agency, the Public Prosecution reported that the head of the Tripoli branch of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Agency provided evidence that led to the identification and arrest of the gang members. One of the detainees was found in possession of 25 kilograms of cocaine.



The investigation revealed that the defendants were connected to drug and psychotropic substance smuggling networks with leaders based in Egypt and Turkey. These networks were known to smuggle prohibited substances into Tunisia using medical vehicles.



The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that the two defendants have been detained pending further investigation. Additionally, international cooperation mechanisms have been activated to pursue other contributors located outside Libyan jurisdiction.
