Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, accompanied by children from the Abu Huraydah Child Care Center and their families, visited the newly refurbished Abu Salim Zoo. The zoo had been closed since 2009, but following extensive renovations by the Tripoli General Services Company, it is set to reopen on the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
According to Libyan News Agency, Dbeibah reviewed the comprehensive renovations at the zoo, which spans nearly 45 hectares. The upgrades included the maintenance of over 80 restrooms, the renovation of the main square with granite marble, and improvements to the water, sewage, and electricity networks. Animal enclosures and houses were also enhanced, with painting and renovation efforts extending over 45,000 square meters.
Technical upgrades were also a focus, with the installation of over 450 surveillance cameras, sound systems, and modern security systems, including electronic gates for entry management.
On the environmental side, significant landscaping was undertaken, featuring the planting of more than 9,000 trees and shrubs from 70 species, the development of green spaces, integrated irrigation systems, and children's play and recreational areas.
The Prime Minister announced that the zoo will welcome visitors again on the first day of Eid al-Fitr at 2:00 PM. This reopening marks the zoo's transformation into a recreational space for families during Eid celebrations.
