Tripoli: Attorney General, Counselor Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, engaged in discussions with Abdul Basit Ahmed Aboudia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan News Agency, and Mansour Al-Ahrash, Head of the Tripoli-Western Region Journalists Syndicate, focusing on the operational challenges and legal status of the agency.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting's agenda included a detailed review of the Libyan News Agency's work, its administrative and legal framework, and difficulties it faces, especially concerning its assets. A key issue discussed was the designation of land in the Al-Sawani-Al-Karimiya area as public property since 1974, intended for the agency's transmission stations and antennas.

Counselor Al-Sour emphasized the role of the Attorney General's office and the Public Prosecution in safeguarding the state's fixed and movable assets, pledging to prevent any misuse and hold accountable those responsible for any mismanagement.

Abdul Basit Aboudia provided an overview of the agency's operations, underlining its dedication to journalistic ethics and its function as a sovereign media entity under legislative authority. He acknowledged the Attorney General's support in resolving past challenges, including the recovery of land seized by unauthorized individuals.

The meeting also addressed the broader landscape of journalism and media in Libya. Mansour Al-Ahrash highlighted challenges facing the Journalists' Syndicate, such as the lack of a permanent headquarters, which impedes defending journalists' rights.

Attorney General Al-Sour reiterated his support for press freedom and responsible journalism, recognizing its role in serving the public, highlighting institutional shortcomings, and exposing negligence and corruption.
