Cairo: The House of Representatives' Media, Culture, and Civil Society Organizations Committee has identified and reviewed significant challenges impeding the global publication and distribution of Libyan books. The committee is focusing on ensuring Libyan culture's robust presence at both regional and international forums.According to Libyan News Agency, this initiative was highlighted during a field visit to the Cairo International Book Fair by the committee's chairman, Jalal Al-Shawehdi. The visit aimed to support cultural institutions and creative individuals by engaging directly with Libyan publishing houses participating in the event.During his tour, Al-Shawehdi engaged with Libyan publishers and writers, gathering insights on the hurdles they face in publishing abroad. Key issues included administrative procedures, logistical difficulties, and high shipping costs, which complicate participation in international book fairs.Al-Shawehdi emphasized that aiding Libyan publishers remains a top priority , underscoring the need for collaboration to overcome these challenges. He explained that such efforts are crucial for boosting Libya's cultural image and showcasing the contributions of its writers on a broader stage.He further noted that the committee's involvement in the Cairo International Book Fair aligns with the House of Representatives' commitment to fostering a culture of reading and knowledge sharing. Al-Shawehdi highlighted recent progress in organizing book fairs in Libya, which calls for unified legislative and executive support to maintain cultural momentum.Additionally, he stated that the Media and Culture Committee considers books to be Libya's true soft power.
