Al-Mnifi and Greek Foreign Minister Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations in Tripoli


Tripoli: The President of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Mnifi, met today at the Council’s headquarters with Giorgos Gerapetritis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, in the presence of the Greek Ambassador to Libya, Nikolaos Garilidis.



According to Libyan News Agency, the Media Office of the Presidential Council stated that this meeting reaffirmed the deep historical ties and the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. The discussions focused on serving the supreme national interests of both nations and enhancing stability in the Mediterranean region.



The Media Office further explained that the meeting explored avenues for political and diplomatic cooperation between Libya and Greece. There was a significant emphasis on the potential activation of joint cooperation mechanisms by reviving bilateral technical and economic committees. The discussions also aimed to pave the way for the return of Greek companies to invest in Libya and contribute to reconstruction and development efforts. Additionally, the meeting addressed initiatives to reopen air links between the two countries and to develop security cooperation concerning the issue of illegal immigration.



The presidential media office did not clarify whether the discussions included the ongoing Libyan-Greek dispute over recent Greek activities in the eastern Mediterranean, which have been rejected by the Libyan authorities.
