Tripoli: The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, on Tuesday evening in Tripoli. The discussions centered on the latest developments in the political process and the UN's efforts to support a comprehensive political framework aimed at ending the division in Libya and unifying state institutions for enhanced stability.According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting delved into the ongoing projects of the UN mission in Libya, focusing on initiating a structured political dialogue and backing economic and institutional initiatives. These efforts are directed at addressing the current division and setting the stage for a sustainable political resolution.Hanna Tetteh highlighted the economic challenges facing Libya, particularly in public financial management, and emphasized the importance of international coordination to support institutional unification. This would create conducive conditions for achieving a lasting political settlement.During the discussions, Al-Menfi reaffirmed the importance of a Libyan-led solution, considering it a national priority in any political process. He underscored that combating corruption is essential to political and economic reforms. Restoring public confidence, he noted, requires stringent governance of public finances, closing gaps that enable wastage, enhancing transparency, and empowering oversight and judicial entities to fulfill their functions effectively.Al-Menfi also referenced recent practical measures he has undertaken, such as establishing an economic advisory committee. This committee is charged with assessing the economic situation and suggesting solutions to mitigate imbalances, with an emphasis on operating independently and professionally to aid the economic reform process. He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with international and UN partners to advance reform efforts, support the unification of the national budget, and strengthen resource over sight. Such actions, he believes, will improve citizens' living standards and help eradicate corruption and the parallel economy.
