Al-Baour and Chinese Ambassador Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties


Tripoli: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Libya, Xu Liang. The meeting focused on enhancing the collaboration between Libya and China, particularly following the visit of the High Committee for Supervising Libyan-Chinese Cooperation to China.



According to Libyan News Agency, the discussions highlighted the importance of establishing practical mechanisms to implement agreements reached during the recent visit. Both parties emphasized expanding the bilateral partnership by focusing on these agreements.



Additionally, the meeting addressed the need to expedite the reopening of the consular section of the Chinese Embassy in Libya. This move aims to facilitate access to visas and other consular services for Libyan citizens, thereby strengthening the ties between the two nations.



The two sides also stressed the significance of enhancing political consultations to achieve shared interests. A key topic was the initiation of procedures for a memorandum of understanding, which would exempt holders of diplomatic passports from both countries from visa requirements. The preparations for this memorandum will be managed through diplomatic channels.



In conclusion, both sides agreed to continue their collaborative efforts to develop bilateral relations and reinforce the strategic partnership across various fields, supporting common interests and development efforts.
